I wanted to do this race since I had done it in Denver back in 2014 and it was a lot of fun. Ok let’s be real…there is also tons of chocolate! Well it was a fine sunny day in Nashville, and a balmy 25 degrees. I was not super excited about the cold, but chocolate is a great motivator 🙂 and there was a sweet finisher medal. My plan was to go with the 10:00/mile pacer (since I completely forgot my garmin!!) and maybe move up around mile 5 or 6 depending on how I was feeling. Well I kept up until about mile 5, and then had to slow down. This course was quite hilly, which I was liking, but definitely slowed my pace some. Glad this wasn’t a half!
Made it to the end without any setbacks and had no crowds when I went to get my bag and my well deserved chocolate. There were plenty of people there, but a) I was slow, and b) it was cold. So I think people grabbed their stuff and ran for their cars. I would have run for my car, but I couldn’t run any more. And I would have spilled my hot chocolate and fondue (which was almost frozen by the time I got to my car!).
All in all I had fun, met some new people, and was a few minutes faster than the last Hot Choc race! Win.
